Table Styling Tips for Any Occasion

Don’t wait for the holidays to decorate the table.

Welcome to March! We are that much closer to warmer weather! February was a very busy month for JerMar Designs. One of the highlights was the Dr. Katie 10-day Detox Wellness Lunch Contest!

Dr. Katie and I hosted 4 winners at my house for a fun lunch filled with delicious food prepared by Chef Lisa. We had a wonderful time getting to know our 4 winners while we discussed all things wellness and interiors.

Each winner also received a gift bag with copies of Plants First from Dr. Katie and a gift certificate to Bespoke Designs, who helped with the stunning table setting. I was so honored to host this special event, which was beautifully captured by Ellyett Photography.

As we move into March, we are currently designing 8 bathrooms, 3 mudrooms, a laundry room, and both a wet and dry bar. This trend indicates people are still interested in renovating their homes and improving the most frequently used rooms in the house!

Since Covid restrictions are lessening, I hope we return to more entertaining! Any night is a good night to set a beautiful table and enjoy your dining spaces.

Keep reading below to learn about some of my favorite ways to easily decorate the table for any occasion…

Fresh Cut Flowers

A must for me in any table setting is fresh cut flowers. I even add them to my kitchen island on a weekly basis. The key to having an appropriate flower arrangement is to keep it low so it doesn’t block the view across the table. Adding a variety of heights and accent flowers with different colors and textures will give the arrangement depth. It is the same as how we add layers to textiles in a room to add interest!

Timeless Candles

Candles are another key element to any table styling! If you don’t already have a good set of silver candlesticks, go invest in them now. They will last a lifetime! I have had mine for over 30 years and they are still classic and in style. If I am using a grouping of pillars or decorative candles, such as the below from Bespoke Designs, I always group them in odd numbers with a variety of heights.

Mix & Match Decor

One of my favorite things to do with the table design is to vary the silverware and glassware. My chairs at the head of the table are different from the side chairs, so it is an easy place to have different silverware, glassware, and even different plates.

For this place setting, I have combined Waterford crystal glasses with Crate and Barrel champagne flutes. Don’t be afraid to mix expensive with inexpensive! I also use my silver flatware frequently. The more you use it, the less you need to polish it. Why keep it for just a holiday when it can be used every day!

Design Trend

Always Cloth Napkins

Invest in a collection of fun cloth napkins and different napkin rings to allow for a quickly assembled table. Have a set of hotel cloth white napkins that can be quickly dressed up with fun colorful napkin rings. They can be bleached and are thick, making them easy to iron.

Design Tip

Layer, Layer, Layer

You can easily assemble a beautiful table by adding layers with a tablecloth and then place mats on top or place mats with decorative chargers and then the plates. Layers add height and depth to the table. Play with different styles, old and new, to have a unique table each time.
